Wolverhampton's South Asian community is predominantly Punjabi, and Sikh heritage is visible in almost every part of the city. Many families arrived in the 1950s and 1960s to work in the foundries and factories of the Black Country, and their children and grandchildren now run businesses, practices and shops across the area. There are also well-established Hindu, Muslim and Ravidassia communities.

Blakenhall, south of the city centre, is the area most associated with the community. Dudley Road runs through it with Punjabi grocers, sweet shops, jewellers, clothing stores and restaurants, and the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, just off Sedgley Street, is the city's largest. Vaisakhi is a high point of the year, with a nagar kirtan procession through the city to West Park. Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas are marked together in gurdwaras and mandirs in the autumn, and Eid is celebrated by the city's Muslim community. Wolverhampton sits at one end of the West Midlands Metro tram line to Birmingham, and the train takes around twenty minutes, so many residents shop and worship across both cities. For wedding outfits and jewellery, though, Dudley Road holds its own, and it is busiest on Saturdays and in the run-up to the summer wedding season.
