Indian businesses and services in Leeds, United Kingdom

Harehills, a short bus ride north-east of Leeds city centre, is the busiest of the city's South Asian neighbourhoods, with Roundhay Road and Harehills Lane full of Pakistani, Kashmiri and Bangladeshi grocers, butchers, sweet shops, clothing stores and restaurants. Beeston, south of the river, has a large Pakistani community and its own shopping parades. Chapeltown, next to Harehills, is home to the Sikh Temple on Chapeltown Road, one of the city's main gurdwaras.

The Leeds Hindu Mandir is on Alexandra Road in Burley, close to the student areas of Hyde Park and Headingley, and serves a congregation drawn from across West Yorkshire. Students from India and Pakistan at the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett have grown in number, and Indian groceries and restaurants have followed them into Hyde Park and the area around the universities.

Vaisakhi brings a nagar kirtan through Chapeltown and Harehills each spring, and Diwali and Navratri are celebrated at the mandir and in community halls. Eid is the year's biggest celebration in Harehills and Beeston, and the shopping streets are especially crowded in the last days of Ramadan. Bradford is a short train ride away, and many families shop and attend weddings across both cities, so it is worth knowing both. Weekends are busiest on Roundhay Road, and parking on the side streets can be difficult.
