Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Namaste Community(“we”, “us”) collects through our mobile app and website (https://namaste.community), why we collect it, and the choices you have. By using Namaste Community, you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Account & profile. Email address or phone number (or your Google/Apple account if you sign in that way), password, display name, profile photo, and your location — either a city you select or your device’s GPS position — so we can show you what’s happening near you. You may also choose a pseudonym to post and message anonymously; we still associate that pseudonym with your account internally so we can enforce our community guidelines.

Phone verification. If you verify your phone number, we send a one-time code to it for that purpose only.

Content you create. Questions and answers, poll votes, marketplace and directory listings, event listings, reviews, and direct messages you send other members.

Directory contact details. If you list a business, the phone/WhatsApp number, email, or website you provide is only shared with another user after they explicitly request it — we email it to them rather than displaying it publicly.

Device & push notifications. A device token (from Apple or Google) so we can deliver push notifications for messages and updates, and, for web push, your browser’s push subscription details.

Usage & diagnostics. Crash reports and basic app diagnostics (via Firebase Crashlytics) so we can fix bugs, and coarse app-usage analytics.

Advertising. The app includes Google AdMob, which may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads where ads are shown.

How we use your information

  • Operate the app: show you relevant local content, deliver messages, and process listings, polls, and reviews.
  • Send push and email notifications you’d expect from using the app (new messages, submission status, referral activity).
  • Verify your phone number and keep the community safe (moderation, abuse prevention, enforcing our policies).
  • Diagnose crashes and improve reliability.
  • Where applicable, show and measure advertising.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run Namaste Community, who process data on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage), Google Firebase (push notifications, crash reporting) and Google AdMob (advertising, where shown), and Resend (transactional email). We do not share your personal information with anyone else except: another user you’ve chosen to contact or message, or where required by law.

Your choices

  • Post anonymously using a pseudonym instead of your real name.
  • Control which of your business contact details, if any, you list in the directory.
  • Turn off push notifications in your device settings at any time.
  • Request a copy of, or permanently delete, your account and data from within the app (Account → Delete Account), or by emailing us below.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable time, except where we need to retain limited records to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

Children

Namaste Community is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We’ll change the “Last updated” date above when we do.
