North of the city centre, Hyson Green and Forest Fields are where most of Nottingham's South Asian shopping happens. Radford Road and Berridge Road are lined with Pakistani, Kashmiri and Indian grocers, butchers, sweet shops, fabric stores and restaurants, and the tram running along Radford Road through Hyson Green makes it easy to get there without a car. Radford, next door, also has long-established Pakistani and Indian communities.

Nottingham's Indian community is a mix of Punjabi Sikhs, Gujarati and Punjabi Hindus and Indian Muslims, and the city has several gurdwaras and mandirs. Sneinton, east of the centre, is home to the Hindu Temple on Carlton Road, and there are gurdwaras on both sides of the city. Mosques, many of them serving the Pakistani and Kashmiri community, are concentrated around Hyson Green, Forest Fields and Sneinton. Diwali, Navratri and Vaisakhi are celebrated in temples and community halls, and Eid is the year's biggest celebration in Hyson Green.

The University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University have large numbers of Indian and other South Asian students, and the demand they bring has led to new Indian grocers, street-food places and restaurants opening nearer the centre and around Lenton and the university campus. For a bigger shopping trip, Leicester's Belgrave Road is around half an hour away by train, and many families go there for wedding outfits and jewellery. Radford Road is busiest on Saturdays and in the last days of Ramadan.
