Foleshill Road, running north from the ring road, is the spine of South Asian Coventry. For a couple of miles it is lined with grocers, sweet shops, jewellers, fabric stores and restaurants, with side streets of terraced houses where Punjabi Sikh, Hindu and Muslim families have lived since the post-war years, when car factories and engineering works drew workers from India and Pakistan. Stoney Stanton Road and Hillfields, close by, share much of that history.

Coventry has a large Sikh community, and several gurdwaras sit on or near Foleshill Road, including the Guru Nanak Parkash Gurdwara on Harnall Lane West, the city's oldest. Hindu temples serve Gujarati and Punjabi congregations across the north and east of the city, and mosques serve the Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian Muslim communities. Vaisakhi brings a nagar kirtan through Foleshill each spring, and Diwali and Eid are celebrated in temples, mosques and community centres.

The city's two universities, Warwick and Coventry, have brought a newer generation of Indian students and young professionals, and they have added to the demand for Indian groceries and restaurants beyond the traditional areas. Coventry was UK City of Culture in 2021, a year that put the city's diverse communities in the spotlight. Practical note: Foleshill Road is busiest on Saturdays and in the evenings during Ramadan, and parking on side streets can be tight.
