Indian businesses and services in London, United Kingdom

Southall, out west near Heathrow, is the Punjabi heartland of London: The Broadway and South Road are lined with sweet shops, jewellers, fabric stores and grocers, and the Sri Guru Singh Sabha gurdwara on Guru Nanak Road, formerly part of Havelock Road, was listed by Guinness World Records in 2003 as the largest Sikh temple outside India. Wembley's Ealing Road leans Gujarati and is a short ride from the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden, the carved stone temple that opened in 1995 and welcomes visitors of any faith. South of the river, Upper Tooting Road mixes Gujarati, Pakistani and Tamil businesses.

East London has its own centres. Brick Lane and Whitechapel are the heart of the Bangladeshi community, with the East London Mosque on Whitechapel Road and a Boishakhi Mela for Bengali New Year, which in recent years has run from Brick Lane to Weavers Fields. East Ham's High Street North is strongly Sri Lankan Tamil and South Indian, and Green Street in Upton Park has long been a destination for wedding outfits and jewellery. Harrow, Hounslow and Ilford all have large, well-established South Asian communities, and the Highgate Hill Murugan Temple serves Tamil Hindus in the north.

The big public moments are Vaisakhi and Diwali, both celebrated on Trafalgar Square, and Southall's Vaisakhi nagar kirtan, a procession that fills its streets each spring. Weekend afternoons on Ealing Road, Green Street and The Broadway are very busy and parking is scarce; Southall is on the Elizabeth line, Neasden on the Jubilee line, and Ealing Road is easiest from Alperton station.
