Indian businesses and services in Fremont, United States

Fremont, Newark and Union City sit on the eastern shore of the bay, and over the past few decades this corner of the East Bay has become home to a large Indian community, many working in the tech industry to the south. In the 2020 Census, Indian was the most commonly reported ancestry in Fremont. Families are drawn by the schools, particularly in the Mission San Jose area, and the city's shopping centres hold a dense mix of South Asian grocers, sweet shops, restaurants and clothing stores. Fremont is also home to a long-established Afghan community, sometimes called Little Kabul.

The Fremont Gurdwara Sahib, on Gurdwara Road, is one of the main Sikh centres in the Bay Area, serving members from several counties. The Fremont Hindu Temple, along with other mandirs and a number of mosques, serves the rest of the community, and over the hills in Livermore stands the Shiva-Vishnu Temple.

BART stations at Union City, Fremont and Warm Springs connect the area with Oakland and San Francisco, though most South Asian shopping is spread through car-oriented plazas. Saturday and Sunday afternoons are when grocers and restaurants are busiest, and in the days before Diwali or Navratri the queues at sweet shops get long. This page covers Fremont, Newark and Union City; San Jose and the rest of the South Bay are listed separately.
