Indian businesses and services in Dallas, United States

The Dallas–Fort Worth South Asian community lives mostly in the northern and western suburbs rather than in Dallas proper. Irving, Frisco and Richardson have well-known South Asian shopping strips, and in the 2020 Census Asian Americans made up more than a fifth of residents in suburbs such as Coppell and Allen. Plano and Carrollton have their own plazas of grocers, sweet shops, clothing stores and restaurants too. With so many separate clusters, it makes sense to search the suburb closest to you; South Indian, Gujarati, Punjabi and Pakistani food are all well represented.

Irving has a particular concentration: Asian Indians are its largest Asian American group, many of them settled in the west of the city near the technology employers along State Highway 114. The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial of North Texas, unveiled in 2014, stands in Thomas Jefferson Park, a regular stop for visitors and a gathering point on Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October. Further north, the Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple in Frisco, inaugurated in 2015, draws devotees from across the metroplex. Gurdwaras, mosques and other temples serve the community throughout the area.

DFW is a driving region and distances between suburbs are long, so plan trips accordingly. Navratri garba nights draw large crowds in the autumn, Diwali is celebrated in temples and at community events, and many associations hold cultural evenings for Onam, Ugadi and Pongal. Weekend afternoons are the busiest time at the larger Indian grocers.
