Namaste Community

Indian community events in the United Kingdom

The UK has the largest Indian community in Europe β€” about 1.9 million people of Indian heritage at the 2021 census β€” and the busiest calendar anywhere outside India. London alone runs more in a week than most countries do in a month: Diwali on Trafalgar Square, Navratri garba in the halls of Harrow, Wembley, Kenton and Hounslow, Bollywood club nights in the West End, kirtan, qawwali and classical concerts, and the Neasden mandir drawing visitors all year. Leicester’s Belgrave Road puts on one of the largest Diwali celebrations outside India. Birmingham’s Soho Road and Smethwick carry the Sikh calendar, Vaisakhi above all; Manchester, Leeds and Bradford have Melas, student societies and a large Pakistani and Bangladeshi community alongside the Indian one; Glasgow and Edinburgh keep their own Mela traditions. Prices below are in pounds, and almost everything is open to everyone.
