Indians in Eindhoven: the 2026 guide to the ASML city, Meerhoven, the temples and the Ganeshotsav

Eindhoven is a city of 249,783 people (1 January 2026) in the south of the Netherlands that was a village until Philips arrived in 1891 and is now the heart of Brainport — the semiconductor and high-tech region of 21 municipalities and 800,000 people around ASML in Veldhoven, the High Tech Campus (300 companies, 12,500 people, 85 nationalities), Philips, NXP, Signify, DAF and VDL, and the Eindhoven University of Technology. It is the place in Europe where an Indian chip engineer is most likely to end up, and its Indian community shows it: 9,507 residents of Indian background in the city (3.8% of it, second only to Amsterdam in absolute numbers), 1,043 more in Veldhoven, and a city councillor's estimate of more than ten thousand with the surrounding villages — 168 nationalities in a city that was almost entirely Dutch a generation ago. Rents are rising faster here than anywhere in the country (+11.9% in the year to mid-2026), the Vinex district of Meerhoven by the airport has been nicknamed "Wokhoven" for its Asian population, and in fifteen years the community has built two mandirs, two ISKCON addresses, a gurdwara, a Ganesh procession through the centre, four cricket clubs and a dozen Indian grocers.

Eindhoven is a ring of former villages around a rebuilt centre, with the airport and ASML to the west and the High Tech Campus to the south. Rents are Numbeo's September 2026 figures (one-bedroom €1,527 in the centre, €1,292 outside; three-bedroom €2,382 and €1,850) and the Pararius average of €20.25 per square metre — the lowest of the big five cities and the fastest-rising.

Renting in Eindhoven

The national rules are in the Netherlands guide: a two-month deposit cap, no agency fees, permanent contracts, the points system, registration as a right and a duty. The 2026 rent bands apply here as everywhere: a regulated (social) rent is at most €932.93 a month, the middle segment runs from there to €1,228.07, and above that — or from 187 points — the free sector begins. The maximum increases from 1 July 2026 are 4.1% for social rents, 6.1% for the middle segment and 4.4% in the free sector. Eindhoven's specifics: the market has tightened sharply since 2024 as ASML hired, a family house in Meerhoven runs €1,800–2,300, and the Holland Expat Center's housing partners and the ASML relocation desk hear of flats before Pararius does. Note that a new-build flat with a good energy label scores more points and may legally sit in the free sector while an older flat of the same size cannot; if a rent looks high for its size, the Huurcommissie's points check is free.

Buying

Many Indian families buy within two years — Eindhoven's prices are far below the Randstad's and the 30% ruling counts in full for a mortgage. The numbers are in the section on buying a home below; the short version is that the average sale in the first quarter of 2026 was €476,000, half of homes sold above asking, and Meerhoven sits about a third above the city average.

Eindhoven is the one big Dutch city where an Indian knowledge-migrant family on a single tech salary can still buy a house with a garden — and the market knows it. The figures below are from the local estate agents' quarterly reports and the September 2026 neighbourhood valuations; they move every quarter, so treat them as the shape of the market rather than a price list.

Three things stand out. First, the overbidding has calmed: half of homes still sell above asking, but the average premium has shrunk to half a per cent, and listings are up two-thirds on a year earlier — a buyer in 2026 has choice that a buyer in 2022 did not. Second, Meerhoven is dear for a reason: it is a third above the city average because it is new, near ASML and the airport, and 72% owner-occupied, and it delivered the country's first 3D-printed houses in April 2021; the villages to the east (Nuenen, Geldrop, Son en Breugel) give more house for the money at the cost of a car. Third, affordability is the political story of the year: the developers' association BPD placed Eindhoven in the national top five of overheated markets in March 2026 — number one in Brabant — and noted that fewer than 40% of Eindhoven sales fall under the National Mortgage Guarantee ceiling, which was raised to €450,000 for 2026. ASML's growth is named as the cause: construction of its new campus began on 8 September 2026, with a first phase for at least 3,000 staff and a long-term plan for up to 20,000 workplaces. That is a demand signal, not a rent forecast, and nobody serious will give you one.

How the purchase works for a newcomer

The mechanics are national and in the Netherlands guide: a mortgage of up to 100% of the valuation, the 30% ruling counted as income by most lenders, the 2% transfer tax (0% for buyers under 35 below the threshold), a notary and a valuation, and a purchasing agent (aankoopmakelaar) who is worth the fee in a market where houses sell in a month. A residence permit with at least a year to run is what the banks look for; several lenders serve knowledge migrants in English and the ASML intake groups know which ones. Budget for the local charges too — the owner's property tax (OZB) and the water-board owner levy add roughly €600 a year on a €300,000 home in 2026, set out in the section on local taxes below.

Work

ASML — headquartered in Veldhoven with its largest research and manufacturing site, 47,878 employees worldwide at the end of 2025 and more than half of them in the Netherlands, building a new campus from September 2026 for a first phase of 3,000 and eventually up to 20,000 workplaces — is the single largest employer of Indian engineers in Europe outside the UK. Around it: Philips and its Research campus, NXP, Signify, DAF Trucks, VDL, the High Tech Campus (IBM, Intel, ASML and Philips labs among 300 firms), TU/e and its spin-offs, Sendcloud, ALTEN, Neways, and the suppliers of the chip-machine supply chain across the 21 Brainport municipalities. Indian knowledge migrants here are process, mechatronics, software and optics engineers, PhDs and their partners. The 2026 knowledge-migrant salary thresholds are national — €5,942 gross a month for those aged 30 and over, €4,357 under 30, and €3,122 for graduates of a Dutch programme or holders of an orientation-year permit, all before the 8% holiday allowance — and the 30% ruling and the search period are in the Netherlands guide. Numbeo's contributors put the average net salary in Eindhoven at about €3,486 a month in September 2026, which understates the engineering pay ASML's intake sees. English is the working language of all of it; Dutch is needed for the schools and the villages.

Buses, the airport shuttle and the trains

Bravo is the Brabant public-transport brand and Hermes runs Eindhoven's buses; check in with a bank card or phone (OVpay) or an OV-chipkaart. The 2026 fares, up 3.86% on 1 January:

The 400 runs every fifteen minutes with one stop (Woensel XL) and takes about twenty minutes; the 401 runs every ten minutes with all stops. Eindhoven Airport handled 6.96 million passengers in 2025 — the second-largest airport in the country, 7.6 km west of the centre, inside Meerhoven — with Ryanair, Transavia, Wizz Air, TUI fly, SunExpress and Pegasus flying to 114 airports in September 2026. There are no Gulf routes: the nearest hub connection towards India is Pegasus to Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen, and most families use Schiphol, two hours by train, for the KLM nonstops. NS trains from Eindhoven Centraal reach Utrecht in 50 minutes, Amsterdam in 80, Den Bosch in 20, Tilburg and Breda for the west; a monthly public-transport pass costs about €100 (Numbeo, 2026), and employers commonly pay it. OV-fiets rental bikes sit at some 300 stations nationally and need a personal OV-chipkaart with the free subscription or NS Flex.

The bicycle covers everything within the ring, with ASML and the campus twenty minutes from the centre by bike path. A car is normal in Eindhoven in a way it is not in Amsterdam — the villages, the weekend, the family visit to Amstelveen — and permits are cheap; the 2026 tariffs are in the daily-life section. An Indian licence cannot be exchanged unless you hold the 30% ruling, which most ASML hires do; the rule is in the Netherlands guide.

Addresses and phone numbers below are from that directory and the shops' own sites, checked in September 2026; hours change, so look before you go, and treat these as pointers rather than endorsements — the live directory beneath this section is where the community rates them.

Groceries

Between them: every regional rice and flour, fresh curry leaves and drumsticks on delivery days, South Indian batters, frozen parathas, pooja items, sweets. Two cautions from the directory itself: "GroceryHub", listed under Eindhoven, was a De Kwakel delivery shop that has since closed, and the "Little India" pages titled "Indian store in Eindhoven" belong to an Almere online shop. For sweets, Bhartiya Mithas at Zanddreef 44 in Meerhoven is the dedicated mithai shop; Mad Batter at Kastelenplein 76 bakes Indian-fusion cakes, and CakeDelights does the same in Geldrop. Albert Heijn and Jumbo for basics; Dookan and the supermarkets deliver to Veldhoven and the villages.

Restaurants, by cluster

Vegetarians are safe in every kitchen above and at the Sunday Feast prasadam at the Bhakti Center. Home caterers — Seyon Sai Home Foods and a dozen more — advertise through the directory and the groups for parties and pujas. The Bollywood Film Festival at the Vue cinema (July 2026) and the Kinepolis Indian-film screenings are the evenings out; the Ganeshotsav's vegetarian food trucks are the year's best street food.

Temples and ISKCON

• Mandir Triloki Dhaam, Tongelresestraat 371, 5642 NC — Sanatan Dharma, the community's main temple. Its Sunday service is in the afternoon, with puja, a discourse and aarti followed by prasad; the temple's own pages give two slightly different windows (14:00–16:30 on one, 13:00–15:30 on another), so check trilokidhaam.nl or ring +31 6 4546 1229 (trilokidhaam@gmail.com) before a first visit. The 2026 annual programme of festivals is on the site.
• Shri Shiv Mandir, Vlokhovenseweg 41, 5625 WT (in the Bacs building), Woensel — a Hindustani-Surinamese Sanatan Dharm congregation, affiliated to the Shri Sanatan Dharm Mahasabha Nederland, whose ancestors left Bihar and Uttar Pradesh for Suriname; its regular service is on Friday evening, not Sunday. 040 283 7278; info@shivmandireindhoven.nl.
• ISKCON Eindhoven, Zeelsterstraat 186, 5652 EG — founded 2007; info@iskconeindhoven.nl, and the centre asks devotees to WhatsApp or email rather than call. Its site lists a Ratha Yatra last held in May 2024 and nothing later, so ask before planning around the summer festival.
• ISKCON Bhakti Center Eindhoven, Trompstraat 2a, 5612 GN — a second address, near the centre, that hosts the Sunday Feast, 12:30–15:00: kirtan, a class, prasadam and children's activities, and observes Janmashtami, Rama Navami, Govardhan Puja and the Kartik Deepotsav. +31 6 4548 8242; info@bhakticentereindhoven.nl. Whether the two ISKCON addresses are one organisation or two groups is not stated on either site; they are listed separately here because their addresses and programmes differ.
• There is no Tamil kovil in Eindhoven; the nearest listed Tamil temple is the Arulmigu Thurgai Amman temple in Zeist, near Utrecht.

The gurdwara

Gurdwara Guru Maneyo Granth Sahib Eindhoven, Papenvoort 1, 5663 AC Geldrop — regular Sunday diwan 11:00–16:00 with langar, ten minutes by car from the city. It is run by a registered foundation, meets in a hired community hall and is fundraising to buy a permanent building; +31 6 1857 5874, gurudwaragurumaneyogranthsahib@gmail.com, and a WhatsApp community carries the diwan updates. Guru Nanak Jayanti is celebrated here in November.

Mosques

South Asian Muslims in Eindhoven use the city's Turkish and Moroccan mosques: Al Fatih, Willemstraat 67; Al-Fourqaan, Otterstraat 2 (Moroccan, part of a foundation dating from 1993, and the largest — up to about 2,000 worshippers); Ar-Rahman, Visserstraat 8; Mevlana, Jan van Riebeecklaan 2; and Anwar-e-Medina, Kastelenplein 169a, on the same square as the Namaste India supermarket.

The festival year

Dates are on the festival calendar; the organisers are described in the associations section. Eindhoven's 2026 year: - Holi: Hamara Holi at the Henri Dunant Park — 7 March 2026 — and the student association's colours on campus. - Tamil New Year (Puthaandu) with Eyal Eindhoven in April — 2025's was at Theater de Schalm in Veldhoven; Ugadi and Sankranti with TANE. - Onam with the Eindhoven Malayalees in September — pookalam, chendamelam, sadhya. - Ganesh Chaturthi: the Ganeshotsav on Saturday 19 September 2026, 12:00–19:00, at the Muziekgebouw (Heuvel 140), with a dhol-tasha-lezhim procession to the 18 Septemberplein — free, registration required, organised by the Eindhoven Marathi Mitramandal; the largest Ganesh festival in the Netherlands. - Navratri and Durga Puja: Bonghoven's tenth Eindhoven Sharad Utsav at the Atalanta sports centre, De Dom 9, Veldhoven, from Friday 16 October 2026 at 13:00 to Sunday 18 October at 21:00 — darshan free, food by coupon; and the Mitramandal's Dandiya in the same hall on Sunday 18 October, 17:00–20:00 (early-bird €6 for adults, €4 for children aged 5–12, €5 for students, under-fives free). TANE's Dussehra and Bathukamma follow. - Diwali: three evenings. The Hamara Group's Diwali in October (2025's was on 11 October at the Blixems centre, Ouverture 2, Woensel — watch the portal for 2026's); the ASML Indian community's Diwali on Friday 6 November 2026, 17:00–21:30, at the Emmaüskerk, Willem van Kesselstraat 186 — dinner, performances and a Bollywood DJ, €17 for adults and over-11s, €10 for ages 5–11, under-fives free, registration required; and the Indo-Dutch Association's Diwali at the International School (15 November in 2025). Lakshmi puja at the mandirs falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. The GLOW light festival runs 7–14 November 2026 the same week — but its Diwali installation was a one-off in 2023 and is not on the 2026 programme, so do not go looking for it. - A Kannada get-together is said to happen every November; ask in the portal for the organiser. - Guru Nanak Jayanti at the Geldrop gurdwara in November. Eindhoven has the densest association life of any Indian community in the Netherlands, and almost all of it is reachable through one portal: IndiaInEindhoven / HoiIndia (indiaineindhoven.nl; hoi@hoiindia.nl), which lists twelve community bodies, the business directory and the events calendar. The twelve, with what each does:

Beyond the twelve: the Eindhoven Malayalees (Onam), the North Indian Community of Eindhoven (NICE) on Facebook, the Meetup groups for dandiya and garba nights, and the dance and fitness studios in the directory (Eindhoven Bhangra Vibes, Bollyzumba). For Nepali neighbours, the Bungamati Foundation Nepal is at Sint Bernulphuslaan 6 in Eindhoven, and the national bodies — Nepal Samaj Nederland (founded 1999) and the NRNA's Netherlands chapter (2006) — are the way in.

Weekend language schools

There is no Indian-curriculum school in the city, but two associations run structured mother-tongue classes for children: TANE's Mana Badi for Telugu and the Mitramandal's Aksharvel for Marathi. Hindi, Tamil and other classes run through private tutors and the groups; ask in the portal or the app rather than trusting a stale listing.

Cricket: four clubs

Eindhoven has four clubs affiliated to the Dutch cricket board, the KNCB — more than any other Dutch city outside the Randstad — and all four are largely South Asian and recruiting: - ASML Cricket Association (founded 2019), Anconalaan 3–5 — the company club, which describes itself as the most successful in the region. - United Cricket Club Eindhoven, Anconalaan 7 — next door on the same ground. - HTCECA, the High Tech Campus Eindhoven Cricket Association, on the campus. - Eindhoven Cricket Club, Sportpark Dommeldal Zuid, Locatellistraat 3 — founded in 1915 as the Philips sports club; registration for the 2026 KNCB season ran through the Sportsplus app while its new website was being built. Matches near you appear in the app's events list; the clubs' own pages come and go, so the WhatsApp captains are the reliable route.

Two budgets

A single knowledge migrant in a one-bedroom outside the centre spends roughly €2,200–2,500 a month all-in — the cheapest of the big five cities; a couple in Strijp-S about €3,200; a family of four in a Meerhoven house about €5,000–5,700 before international-school fees, and the International School Eindhoven's subsidised fees (about €560–790 a month per child) keep those modest. Add roughly €97 a month in local charges if you own a €300,000 home (waste, sewer, property tax and the water board together, 2026), or the waste and water-board resident charges alone — about €30 a month for a couple — if you rent. Rents are rising faster here than anywhere in the country (+11.9% in a year) as ASML hires, so the gap with the Randstad is closing.

Salaries are not indexed automatically as in Belgium and Luxembourg, but the 8% holiday allowance is a legal floor, a thirteenth month is common in IT and finance, and the 30% ruling — 30% of salary tax-free in 2026, 27% from 2027 — is what makes the first five years' arithmetic work. Compare offers on net-of-tax terms and ask whether the employer grosses up.

Every Dutch household pays three layers of local charges on top of rent or mortgage, and they arrive by post in the spring after you register — a surprise for most newcomers, who assumed the income tax covered it. The municipal assessment arrives at the end of February; households on a low income can apply for remission (kwijtschelding), and the water board is billed separately. Tenants pay the waste charge and the two water-board household levies but not the OZB or the owner levy. Eindhoven's waste charge is among the lower ones for a big city — Utrecht's runs from €346.25 to €600.05 in 2026 — which is one small reason the family budget works better here.

How waste collection works

Collection for Eindhoven, Geldrop-Mierlo and Valkenswaard is run by Cure Afvalbeheer, a shared municipal company serving about 180,000 households. Residual waste, GFT (food and garden), paper and PMD (plastic, metal and drink cartons) go in wheeled bins per house or in underground containers per block, on a calendar that differs by street — the Cure Afval app or mijnafvalwijzer.nl knows your days once you type in your postcode. Glass and textiles go to street containers; bulky waste is collected by appointment; the recycling centre on the Lodewijkstraat is being rebuilt in 2026, so check which milieustraat is open before loading the car. Meerhoven's new-build streets use underground containers opened with a pass tied to your address, which is another reason registration matters on day one.

The energy and water connections

The Dutch energy market is open: you choose an electricity and gas supplier on a comparison site (Independer, Gaslicht) and can switch yearly; the grid operator that owns the meters and handles connections and moves is Enexis. Water is a regional monopoly with no contract to shop for — Brabant Water here; notify the move-in date and the meter reading. Most flats are gas-heated with a combi boiler; new-build in Meerhoven is increasingly all-electric with a heat pump, which shows up as a higher electricity bill and no gas bill. Set up the smart-meter app on day one — Dutch winters are billed monthly on an estimate and settled once a year, and a wrong estimate is a nasty April surprise. Numbeo's contributors put utilities for an 85 m² flat at about €189 a month in 2026.

Phones and internet

KPN, Odido and VodafoneZiggo are the networks; SIMs are sold with ID at any supermarket and registered in minutes; a 10 GB plan is about €15–20 a month and fibre or cable internet €40–55 (Numbeo's 2026 average for broadband in Eindhoven is €39.50). Parking permits: the 2026 tariffs

A car is normal in Eindhoven in a way it is not in Amsterdam — for ASML's shifts, the villages and the family visit to Amstelveen — and the municipality's permits are cheap by Dutch standards. There are two kinds of regulated street: ordinary paid-parking areas and the stricter permit-holder (E9) areas, and the price depends on which you live in and whether you are in the centre or the ring (schil). At most two resident permits per address; monthly prices from the municipality's 2026 page:

Meerhoven and Veldhoven mostly have driveways and free streets, so many families there never need a permit at all. An Indian licence is valid for 185 days after registration and cannot be exchanged unless you hold the 30% ruling — the rule is in the Netherlands guide. Most Indian families in the cities manage without a car in the first year; car-share (Greenwheels, MyWheels) covers the weekend, and the twenty-year mortgage rate quoted by Numbeo's contributors (3.72% in September 2026) is a reminder that a car loan is the dearer kind of borrowing.

The weather and the calendar

Maritime and mild: an annual mean around 10–11 °C, rain and wind in every month, short winter days, a heatwave or two in summer; a good rain jacket beats an umbrella on a bicycle, and Dutch GPs prescribe vitamin D to almost every newcomer from India. Few public holidays — King's Day on 27 April is the one the whole country celebrates in orange — and shops open on Sundays in the city. The Dutch Design Week in October fills every hotel; GLOW, the light festival, runs 7–14 November 2026 under the theme "Connect", with a drone show at the Philips Stadium and satellite locations in Best, Helmond, Lieshout, Oirschot and Veldhoven — the same week as Diwali, which makes for a good evening out even though the festival itself has no Diwali installation this year. Carnival in February closes the south of the country for a long weekend in a way that surprises people who moved from Amsterdam.

What people wish they had known

• The GP is the bottleneck, not the permit: start ringing practices the day you have a postcode, and use the expat centre's list.
• The expat centre moved. Old blog posts, relocation PDFs and even some employer welcome packs still give its former address in the centre; it is at Stadhuisplein 10 now, and the phone number changed too.
• "No registration" flats are illegal and common; walk away, however good the flat.
• The 30% ruling is negotiated, not automatic: ask in the offer, and ask whether the employer grosses up.
• The Dutch school split at twelve decides more than any international school does; understand it before your child is ten.
• Best and Helmond are outside the expat centre's circle. A cheaper house there means registering at that town hall yourself, in Dutch.
• The groups know first — which grocer has curry leaves this week, which crèche has a place, which GP opened its list. Meerhoven, Veldhoven and the villages are where families buy.

Every Indian who has moved abroad has the same first move: find the WhatsApp group. Eindhoven has more than any city its size — the ASML groups by building and by intake, the Meerhoven parents, the Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Malayali, Gujarati and Bengali ones, the garba group, the four cricket clubs' groups, the "who has a spare cot" group, the IndiaInEindhoven Meetups — and they are how a community that grew from nothing in fifteen years has always run. This guide is not going to pretend otherwise.

What the groups are good at, and what they are not

They are fast and warm: ask at nine in the evening which GP in Meerhoven is still taking patients and somebody who registered last month will answer before ten. But you need to know somebody to get the link; the links that circulate are stale, and the live ones are where the "flat, pay the deposit first" scams start. A group of 1,000 people has no moderator, so the same three questions are asked every week and the answers scroll away — which is how the expat centre's old address kept circulating for months after it moved. Every member can see your phone number. And a group does not know where you live: the flat in Helmond and the Durga Puja in Amstelveen arrive with the same weight as the one in Veldhoven.

What Namaste Community does instead

Namaste Community is a free app, built in the Benelux by members of this community, that keeps what the groups do well and fixes the rest. It launched in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg and works in every country — so it is also the answer when ASML posts you to one of its other sites.

• Everything is ranked by distance from you — events, groups, questions, businesses and things for sale, within 10, 50, 100 or 200 km, your choice — so an Eindhoven member sees Eindhoven and Veldhoven first.
• Groups with a place and a moderator, joined by people within their radius, with polls, join modes and a member limit; your phone number is never shown, and you can post under your name or an anonymous handle.
• Ask, and the answer stays: the question about the 30% ruling, the ISE waiting list or a GP taking patients is answered once, in a thread the next intake finds — and corrected once when the answer changes.

The International School Eindhoven

The International School Eindhoven (ISE), Oirschotsedijk 14B (+31 40 251 94 37), is Dutch-subsidised and teaches the IB from primary to diploma in its international departments, with a Dutch-bilingual primary department alongside. Admissions run through the OpenApply portal, and the school holds introduction sessions each autumn — online for the international primary (Friday 9 October 2026, 13:30) and secondary (14:30 the same day), and on site at Jan Luikenstraat 49 for the Dutch bilingual primary. It has waiting lists for some year groups "from time to time" — which, with ASML's hiring, means apply the day you have a contract. The official 2026–27 fees:

Third-party school databases still show older, lower figures; use the school's own page. The free Dutch schools take children from four with newcomer language classes and are the choice of most Indian families who plan to stay; the villages' schools are good and Dutch-only, and the SALTO foundation runs Dutch–English bilingual primaries in the centre and in Meerhoven. There is no Indian-curriculum school; Telugu and Marathi classes run through TANE's Mana Badi and the Mitramandal's Aksharvel, and Hindi and Tamil through tutors. For older students, TU/e's 2026–27 tuition is €2,694 at the statutory rate, €18,600 for a non-EU bachelor's and €21,700 for a non-EU master's; the orientation year and the reduced salary threshold that follow are in the Netherlands guide.

Childcare

Daycare is private and subsidised through the national childcare allowance: in 2026 the maximum reimbursable rates are €11.23 an hour for daycare, €9.98 for after-school care and €8.49 for a registered childminder, with 96% reimbursed for household incomes up to about €56,000 and a sliding scale down to 36.5% (first child) and 68.2% (later children) above €235,698. Numbeo's contributors put a full-day private preschool place at about €2,516 a month before the allowance. Korein is the large local chain; Meerhoven's crèches have waiting lists — register in pregnancy.

GPs: the real bottleneck

Eindhoven's GP shortage is the one thing every newcomer underestimates. Regional broadcaster Omroep Brabant reported in November 2025 that 60% of the city's practices had a patient stop, that the region expects 53,000 new workers within ten years — 30% from abroad — and that the largest GP group, Stroomz (about 100 GPs and more than 200,000 patients), needs 200 extra staff and is training reception staff in medical English; its summary was that Eindhoven "is not ready for the wave". What to do: ring practices the day you have a postcode; ask the expat centre for its list; and check the practices that publish their status — Medisch Kwartier Eindhoven, P.Czn. Hooftlaan 2, was accepting new patients from postcodes 5611–5617, 5642 and 5652 in September 2026 with forms in English. Zorgkaart Nederland lists 91 GPs in the city but not who is open. Basic insurance is due within four months (about €159 a month, €385 deductible); the TB test is at the GGD Brabant-Zuidoost within three. The rules are in the Netherlands guide.

Hospitals and out-of-hours care

Everything else about health — the deductible, the GP as gatekeeper, pregnancy and the consultatiebureau — is national. The other city guides: Amsterdam, Amstelveen, The Hague, Rotterdam, Utrecht.

Eindhoven's community is Indian first — Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Malayali, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi, in roughly that order of visibility, and almost all of it expat and recent — but the city's South Asian life is wider than the ASML intake, and everything on this page about registering, renting, GPs, taxes and transport applies identically to every non-EU newcomer.

• Hindustani-Surinamese neighbours are a small community here compared with The Hague or Rotterdam, but they built one of the city's two mandirs: the Shri Shiv Mandir on the Vlokhovenseweg is a Sanatan Dharm congregation with roots in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh by way of Suriname, worshipping on Friday evenings and affiliated to the national Mahasabha. Indian newcomers are welcome there, and the roti shops of Woensel are theirs.
• Pakistani neighbours share the grocers, the sweet shop, the four cricket clubs and the mosques listed in the temples section — Al-Fourqaan on the Otterstraat is the largest, and Anwar-e-Medina sits on the Kastelenplein beside the Namaste India supermarket. A community platform estimates several thousand Pakistanis in Eindhoven, but there is no official count. The Pakistan embassy is in The Hague.
• Sri Lankan Tamil neighbours share Eyal Eindhoven's Tamil New Year and winter festival and the South Indian kitchens on the Kruisstraat and in Meerhoven; there is no Tamil kovil in the city, and the nearest, the Arulmigu Thurgai Amman temple, is in Zeist. The Sri Lankan embassy is in The Hague; Sri Lankans are exempt from the TB test.
• Bangladeshi neighbours are welcome at Bonghoven's Durga Puja, which is Bengali before it is Indian, and at Mukhorochak, the Bengali restaurant in Meerhoven; the Bangladesh embassy is in The Hague.
• Nepali neighbours run Restaurant Mt. Everest on the Gestelsestraat and have the Bungamati Foundation Nepal at Sint Bernulphuslaan 6; the national Nepal Samaj Nederland (1999) and the NRNA's Dutch chapter (2006) are the community bodies, and Nepal is covered consularly from its embassy in Brussels.

The embassies of Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in The Hague are about an hour and a half away by train; the Netherlands guide's section on South Asian neighbours has the national picture, and the Embassy of India at Oranjestraat 12 in The Hague takes passport applications itself, while OCI goes through VFS.
