Indian businesses and services in Winnipeg, Canada

Census figures show Winnipeg's South Asian community growing several times over in the past two decades, and by the 2021 Census India had become the largest source of the city's recent immigrants. Much of the community has settled in the north of the city: The Maples and the surrounding neighbourhoods have a strong South Asian and Punjabi presence, and suburban plazas nearby hold many of the grocers, sweet shops and restaurants. Other South Asian businesses are scattered around the south end and near the universities.

Gurdwaras serve the Sikh community and host Vaisakhi and gurpurab celebrations, and Hindu temples and mosques are spread across the city. Folklorama, Winnipeg's long-running multicultural festival held over two weeks each August, usually includes pavilions run by South Asian community groups, with food, dance and music. Diwali is celebrated in temples, gurdwaras and community halls across the city.

Winnipeg is cold for much of the year, so community life runs through halls, temples and homes in winter. Transit is bus-based, with a rapid transit corridor running south-west towards the University of Manitoba, but most families drive to the northern plazas. Weekends are the busiest time for grocery shopping, particularly in the days before a festival.
