Indian businesses and services in Mississauga, Canada

Malton, tucked against the north-east edge of Pearson airport, has been home to a large South Asian community since the 1970s and 1980s, alongside Caribbean and West African families. Each spring its Vaisakhi nagar kirtan winds through the neighbourhood's streets to the Malton gurdwara, with processions, kirtan and free food stalls run by volunteers. Just to the west, the Ontario Khalsa Darbar on Dixie Road is a large gurdwara on an extensive site.

The rest of the city is more mixed. Mississauga has a large Pakistani and wider South Asian Muslim community, with mosques and halal butchers across the city, and South Asian families make up a large share of western neighbourhoods such as Meadowvale and Churchill Meadows. Shopping is mostly in suburban plazas rather than along a single high street, so it pays to search by what you need rather than by area. Eid prayers draw large congregations, and during Ramadan South Asian restaurants and sweet shops stay busy late into the evening.

Getting around, Malton has its own GO station on the Kitchener line, and MiWay buses cover the rest of the city, though most people drive. Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, Eid and Ramadan arrive roughly eleven days earlier each year, and the late-evening rush at restaurants moves with them. This page covers Mississauga itself; Brampton, immediately to the north, has its own page.
