Hindu temples, gurdwaras and the Jain temple in Belgium

Brussels has two Hindu temples: the Brussels Mandir in Evere (Sundays 11:00–13:00) and the Brussels Ram Mandir in Etterbeek (Saturday and Sunday mornings, 09:00–11:30). Antwerp has the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir and, in Wilrijk, the only Jain temple on the European mainland. The Vilvoorde gurdwara has been closed since February 2025; the gurdwaras in use are in Deurne, Ghent, Sint-Truiden, Borgloon, Alken and Liège.

    Gurdwara Guru Nanak Sahib

    Closed indefinitely by order of the mayor since 1 February 2025, after a stabbing and disputes over its board; no reopening had been announced by September 2026. It was the Brussels community’s gurdwara from 1999, in a former cinema twenty minutes from Brussels-Nord — check the Vilvoorde municipality’s news before assuming it has reopened. The nearest open gurdwara is in Deurne.

    The only Jain temple on the European mainland: a thousand square metres of hand-carved marble from India, in use since 2010, built by the Jain Cultural Centre Antwerp with the Palanpur diamond families. Paryushan and Navpad Oli are kept here. Visitors of every faith are welcome; dress modestly and leave leather at the door.

Also worth knowing

Hinduism is not yet an officially recognised religion in Belgium, so the temples are community associations in converted buildings rather than purpose-built mandirs — small, warm and volunteer-run, and where the festivals happen. The Hindu Temple Belgium foundation is raising money for the first purpose-built one.

Closed: the Shiva Temple in Oudenaarde, opened in 2020, closed in October 2024 and survives only as a small shrine at its association’s offices. We could not confirm a Sri Lankan Tamil temple in Belgium; the large Tamil temple festivals of the region are in the Netherlands, Germany and Paris.

Satya Sai bhajan groups meet on Sundays in Leuven, Antwerp and Ostend (sathyasai.be lists them), and a Shirdi Sai group gathers in Overijse.

Questions people ask

Is there a Hindu temple in Brussels?
Two. The Brussels Mandir at Rue Colonel Bourg 123–125 in Evere holds its main worship every Sunday from 11:00 to 13:00, and the Brussels Ram Mandir at Place Van Meyel 28 in Etterbeek, the oldest in the city, is open on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 09:00 to 11:30. ISKCON has a centre on Avenue d’Auderghem in Etterbeek.
Is the Vilvoorde gurdwara open?
No. Gurdwara Guru Nanak Sahib in Vilvoorde has been closed indefinitely by order of the mayor since 1 February 2025, and no reopening had been announced by September 2026. The nearest open gurdwara to Brussels is Guru Har Rai Sahib in Deurne (Antwerp); the largest in Belgium is Sangat Sahib in Sint-Truiden.
Where is the Jain temple in Belgium?
The Shankheshwar Parshvanath Jain Temple is at Laarstraat 20 in Wilrijk, Antwerp. In use since 2010, it is the only Jain temple on the European mainland, and visitors of every faith are welcome.
Is there an ISKCON temple in Belgium?
Radhadesh, ISKCON’s centre for the Benelux, is in the château of Petite Somme at Septon-Durbuy in the Ardennes, with a guesthouse and a restaurant. ISKCON also runs city centres in Brussels (Etterbeek) and Antwerp.
How do I find a pandit in Belgium?
For a house puja, a naming ceremony or a wedding, ask at the Brussels Mandir or the BAPS mandir in Antwerp — the temples are the practical route.
