Indian community events in Belgium

Belgium’s Indian community is small enough that most events are open to everyone and big enough that every festival has one. Brussels carries the largest calendar — Diwali on the Atomium esplanade, Garba nights in the communes, Bollywood and classical dance workshops in Ixelles — with the EU quarter’s professionals and families behind it. Antwerp has the oldest roots: the Jain diamond-trading families whose temple stands in Wilrijk, and a Sikh community with gurdwaras in the province. Leuven and Ghent run on students and university staff, which is why the Ganesh festival, Navratri garba and a cricket league turn up there every year. Most listings below are free or under €15, in English, and open to non-Indians — bring friends.

When is Diwali celebrated in Belgium in 2026?
Diwali (Lakshmi Puja) falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. Community celebrations in Belgium are usually held on the nearest weekends, from late October — the Brussels Diwali Festival, for example, is on 24 October 2026 at the Atomium esplanade. Check the listing for each event’s own date.
Are Indian community events in Belgium open to everyone?
Almost all of them. Festivals, dance workshops, concerts and food events are public and usually run in English. Religious ceremonies at temples and gurdwaras welcome visitors too — dress modestly and cover your head in a gurdwara.
Where are the Hindu temples and gurdwaras in Belgium?
The main Hindu temple is in Brussels, with a Jain temple in Wilrijk (Antwerp) and ISKCON’s Radhadesh in Durbuy. Sikh gurdwaras are in Vilvoorde, Sint-Truiden and Ghent. Their festival days are the anchor of the calendar below.
