Indian community events in Germany

Germany’s Indian community is the fastest-growing in Europe: Indians are now the largest group of international students in the country, and the engineers, researchers and IT specialists who followed them are concentrated around Berlin’s start-ups, Munich’s and Stuttgart’s engineering firms, Frankfurt’s banks and airport, and the Rhineland. The calendar follows them: Durga Puja and garba run by Bengali and Gujarati associations, Diwali at universities and community halls, Bollywood nights in Berlin and Munich, cricket on summer weekends, and temple festivals — the Sri Kamadchi Ampal temple in Hamm, one of the largest Hindu temples in Europe, draws thousands to its annual chariot procession. Most events are in English, some in German; prices are in euros.

When is Diwali in Germany in 2026?
Sunday 8 November 2026. It is not a public holiday in Germany, so community celebrations — association dinners, university events, temple pujas — are held on the weekends around it. Every one posted to the community is listed below with its own date.
Where are the Hindu temples in Germany?
The Sri Kamadchi Ampal temple in Hamm, North Rhine-Westphalia, built by the Tamil community, is one of the largest Hindu temples in Europe. Berlin has the Sri Ganesha temple in Neukölln, and most large cities have smaller mandirs and gurdwaras run by their communities.
Are Indian community events in Germany in English?
Most are, or are bilingual in English and Hindi; events organised with German cultural institutions are sometimes in German. Check the listing, which links to the organiser’s own page.
