Indian community events in the United Kingdom

The UK has the largest Indian community in Europe โ€” about 1.9 million people of Indian heritage at the 2021 census โ€” and the busiest calendar anywhere outside India. London alone runs more in a week than most countries do in a month: Diwali on Trafalgar Square, Navratri garba in the halls of Harrow, Wembley, Kenton and Hounslow, Bollywood club nights in the West End, kirtan, qawwali and classical concerts, and the Neasden mandir drawing visitors all year. Leicesterโ€™s Belgrave Road puts on one of the largest Diwali celebrations outside India. Birminghamโ€™s Soho Road and Smethwick carry the Sikh calendar, Vaisakhi above all; Manchester, Leeds and Bradford have Melas, student societies and a large Pakistani and Bangladeshi community alongside the Indian one; Glasgow and Edinburgh keep their own Mela traditions. When is Diwali in the UK in 2026?
Diwali falls on Sunday 8 November 2026. The big public celebrations โ€” Diwali on the Square in London, the lights on Leicesterโ€™s Belgrave Road โ€” are held in the weeks around it, and most community dinners, parties and pujas fall on the nearest weekends. Every one posted to the community is listed below with its own date.
Where is Navratri garba in London in 2026?
Navratri runs from 11 to 19 October 2026. Garba and dandiya nights are held in school halls, sports centres and community halls across Harrow, Wembley, Kenton, Hounslow, Croydon and Ilford, plus Bollywood-garba fusion nights in central London. Where are the biggest Hindu temples and gurdwaras in the UK?
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Neasden, north-west London, is the best known; Bhaktivedanta Manor near Watford holds one of the largest Janmashtami festivals outside India. The Sri Guru Singh Sabha gurdwara in Southall is among the largest Sikh temples outside India, and Leicester, Birmingham and Wolverhampton each have major mandirs and gurdwaras.
