Hindu temples and gurdwaras in the United Arab Emirates
The UAE has three Hindu temples open to visitors: the BAPS Hindu Mandir at Abu Mreikhah in Abu Dhabi (Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–20:00, closed on Mondays, registration required), the Hindu Temple Dubai in the Jebel Ali Worship Village (06:00–18:00 since its April 2026 reopening) and the Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai. Dubai’s large gurdwara, Guru Nanak Darbar, stands beside the Jebel Ali temple, open 04:30–20:30 every day with free langar, and Abu Dhabi’s gurdwara is in Musaffah. The old Bur Dubai Shiva temple and Sindhi gurdwara closed on 3 January 2024, and Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah have no temple we could confirm.
Dubai
Correct or addMost of Dubai’s Indian worship is in the Worship Village at Jebel Ali, off Sheikh Zayed Road, where the Hindu temple, the gurdwara and a compound of churches stand side by side. Bur Dubai keeps its Krishna temple. Weekends in the UAE are Saturday and Sunday.

Hindu Temple Dubai (Jebel Ali)
- Address
- Worship Village, Jebel Ali Village, off Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai (Google Maps plus code 24G7+Q78) · Directions
- When
- Daily 06:00–18:00, the hours the temple announced when it reopened on 10 April 2026 after its wartime closure. Before the closure it published 06:00–20:30, with aarti at 06:30 and 19:30. We found no notice restoring the longer day — check the temple’s social pages.
Dubai’s main Hindu temple, opened in October 2022, with sixteen deities — among them Shiva, Ayyappan and Guruvayoorappan as the three main shrines, Ganesh, Krishna, Lakshmi-Narayan, Murugan, Venkateswara, Durga, Mookambika, Hanuman, Ram, Jhulelal, Jalaram Bapa and Sai Baba — and a Guru Granth Sahib; the worship of the old Bur Dubai Shiva temple moved here in January 2024. The prayer hall holds 1,500 and a banquet hall holds 750 for ceremonies. Walk-ins are accepted on weekdays, but a booked slot (a QR code from the temple’s website or app) is strongly recommended at weekends, on public holidays and at Diwali and Navratri; dress modestly, shoes come off before the prayer hall and photography is restricted in some areas. Metro Red Line to Energy or Ibn Battuta, then bus F44 or a taxi of about AED 12–25; parking is limited.

Dubai’s largest gurdwara, open since January 2012 on land granted by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, beside the Hindu temple. Langar is free to everyone — a May 2026 listing gives breakfast 07:30–10:00, lunch 12:00–15:00 and dinner 19:00–20:30 — and about 10,000 people came on a Friday before the 2020 closures. Heads are covered for men and women, shorts and short clothes are not allowed, shoes come off (storage at the entrance), and there is no accommodation. The office books Akhand Path, Anand Karaj, naming ceremonies and the function halls; Saturday classes teach children Punjabi and kirtan. It returned to normal hours on 20 June 2026 after reduced hours of 06:00–18:00 from 11 April.

The temple of the Mercantile Hindu Community of Thatta (Sind). Its management’s history dates the community’s presence to 1902 and says the Haveli was rebuilt in 1958 on land granted by Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum and refurbished in 1997. It did not move when the Shiva mandir and gurdwara beside it closed in January 2024, was closed by the Community Development Authority’s instructions from 3 April 2026 and reopened for darshan on 11 April. Entry is free with donation counters; dress to cover shoulders and knees, shoes off at the prayer halls, and keep silent during rituals. Al Fahidi station (Green Line), then a short walk through the old souk; parking is limited.

- When
- No hours published — ring or ask before a first visit
A modest gurdwara behind an industrial building, serving a smaller Sikh congregation than Jebel Ali. Third-party listings give early-morning and late-afternoon sessions with longer hours on Sundays, but the gurdwara publishes no timetable we could find, so confirm with the community before going. The usual gurdwara etiquette applies: head covered, shoes off.

Shiva Mandir and Sindhi Guru Darbar gurdwara (old Bur Dubai complex)
- Address
- Sindhi Guru Darbar complex, Ali Bin Abi Taleb Street, Al Fahidi, Bur Dubai
The Shiva Mandir, which dated from 1958, and the gurdwara in the same Sindhi Guru Darbar complex closed on 3 January 2024, and their darshan and puja moved to the Hindu Temple in Jebel Ali. The Krishna temple beside it stayed open. Gulf News reported about 5,000 visitors on weekends and up to 100,000 on festival days; older guides that still send you to the “Bur Dubai Shiva temple” are out of date.
Abu Dhabi
Correct or addAbu Dhabi has one Hindu temple, the UAE’s first traditional stone mandir, and a gurdwara in Musaffah. Dubai is 40 to 90 minutes away by road depending on where you start.

- When
- Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–20:00 (last entry 20:00); closed to visitors on Mondays. Ganga Aarti at 19:30 on weekdays, and at 18:45 and 19:30 at weekends and public holidays. Registration with a time slot is required. At Diwali 2025 it opened 09:00–21:00; hours change at festivals.
The BAPS Swaminarayan stone mandir, inaugurated on 14 February 2024 and open to visitors since 1 March 2024. Entry is free but every visitor registers for a slot at mandir.ae/visit or in the Mandir Abu Dhabi app and shows the QR code and a physical Emirates ID or passport at the gate, after an X-ray and metal-detector check; unregistered visitors are turned away, and unaccompanied children are not admitted. Dress to cover the body between the neck, elbows and ankles — no shorts, sleeveless tops, short skirts or tight or see-through clothes (sarongs can be rented at the front desk), shoes come off, and food, drink including water, flowers, professional cameras, selfie sticks and drones are not allowed. Parking on the campus is free; a taxi rank stands outside.

Gurdwara Dhan Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji (Musaffah)
- Address
- Musaffah, sector M-11, Abu Dhabi · Directions
- When
- No hours published — ring or ask before a first visit
A community gurdwara in Musaffah’s industrial area, reached by car or taxi, with free vegetarian langar; heads are covered and shoes come off, and visitors of any religion may enter. The building is plain and easy to miss, so ask for directions on arrival. It publishes no timetable we could find. Other directories list a Gurdwara Mata Sahib Abu Dhabi at the same sector, and a 2019 student-magazine visit called it the New Gurdwara Abu Dhabi — we could not tell whether these are one congregation or two.
Also worth knowing
Spring 2026 closures. Because of the regional conflict, the BAPS mandir announced a temporary closure on 2 March (extended on 9 March) and reopened on 14 April; Hindu Temple Dubai, Guru Nanak Darbar and the Krishna temple closed on 3 April and reopened on 10 and 11 April, at first with shorter hours. The gurdwara has since returned to 04:30–20:30 (20 June) and its October 2026 programme shows normal hours; the Hindu temple’s last published hours that we found are 06:00–18:00. Check each place’s social pages before a long trip.
Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah. We found no Hindu temple in these emirates with a confirmed address and published schedule in 2026. In practice people living there go to the Krishna temple in Bur Dubai or the Worship Village at Jebel Ali in Dubai, or to Abu Dhabi for the BAPS mandir. The World Gurudwaras directory lists small gurdwaras in the Al Sajaa industrial area of Sharjah, in Ras Al Khaimah and in Dubai Investment Park 2, with no timetables; we could not confirm them, so ask the Sikh community in your emirate before travelling.
Rules that differ from India. Processions, drums and loudspeakers are not allowed on the street, and for Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 Hindu Temple Dubai asked devotees to use eco-friendly idols and immerse them at home, never in the sea, ponds or beaches, warning of legal action. Weekends are Saturday and Sunday and are the busiest days at the Dubai temples, and Diwali, Navratri and Gurpurab days bring queues — Hindu Temple Dubai’s trustee said in 2022 that about 3,000 people came on a weekday and over 21,000 at weekends and at Diwali. Diwali in 2026 is on Sunday 8 November; the BAPS mandir had not published its programme when we checked, but in 2025 it opened on Diwali day and held Annakut and Maha Annakut with registration.
Ceremonies. Hindu Temple Dubai’s banquet and multipurpose halls can be booked through its website for weddings, naming ceremonies and birthdays, and Guru Nanak Darbar’s office takes bookings for Akhand Path, Anand Karaj, engagement, naming and housewarming prayers by phone, email or its online request form. The Jebel Ali temple’s Sai Baba, Murugan, Venkateswara, Guruvayoorappan and Jhulelal shrines mean one visit covers most regional traditions.
Not on the list. We found no ISKCON, Shirdi Sai, Arya Samaj or Swaminarayan (other than BAPS) place of worship in the UAE with a public address and schedule in 2026; Sai Baba has a shrine at Jebel Ali. Wikipedia describes a Jain house temple, a ghar derasar, in a residential tower in Bur Dubai, but its sources date from 2012 and 2015, so we have not listed it — Jain families should ask Dubai’s Jain community groups where Paryushan and Mahavir Jayanti are held.
Questions people ask
- Where are the Hindu temples in the UAE?
- Three were open when we checked in October 2026: the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Mreikhah, Abu Dhabi; the Hindu Temple Dubai in the Worship Village at Jebel Ali; and the Shri Krishna Temple in Bur Dubai. Dubai’s older Shiva temple in Bur Dubai closed on 3 January 2024. Gurdwaras are at Jebel Ali (Guru Nanak Darbar), in Al Aweer (Dubai) and in Musaffah (Abu Dhabi).
- What are the timings of the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, and which day is it closed?
- It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 20:00 and closed to visitors every Monday. Ganga Aarti is at 19:30 on weekdays and at 18:45 and 19:30 at weekends and public holidays. Hours can change at festivals, so check mandir.ae before you travel.
- Do I need to register to visit the BAPS Mandir?
- Yes. Entry is free, but every visitor registers individually for a date and time slot at mandir.ae/visit or in the Mandir Abu Dhabi app, and shows the QR code and a physical Emirates ID or passport at the gate; digital copies of ID are not accepted. Management said in March 2024 that residents did not need to register, but the mandir’s own page and its 2025 and 2026 notices now say registration is mandatory and unregistered visitors are turned away.
- What should I wear to the BAPS Mandir, and what can I carry?
- Cover the body from neck to elbows and ankles: no shorts, sleeveless tops, skirts above the knee, tight or see-through clothes, or slogans; sarongs can be rented at the front desk. Shoes come off in marked areas. Food, drinks including water, flowers, professional cameras, selfie sticks, drones and chairs are not allowed, there is no cloakroom, and phone photography is allowed for personal use — keep the phone on silent and follow staff inside the shrine.
- How do I get to the BAPS Mandir from Dubai?
- By car it is about 40 minutes from Jebel Ali and up to 90 from central Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road (E11), taking exit 366 into the visitor car park, which is free. Careem and Uber serve it and a taxi rank stands outside for the return. Wego’s July 2026 guide lists no bus from Dubai; from Abu Dhabi city, bus 203 runs weekends only from Al Nahyan terminal (about 90 minutes, Hafilat card), so check the route with Abu Dhabi’s transport authority first.
- Is the Hindu temple in Jebel Ali open, and do I need to book?
- It reopened on 10 April 2026 with daily hours of 06:00 to 18:00 and was not reported to have restored its earlier 06:00 to 20:30 day when we checked. Walk-ins were accepted on weekdays in 2026 listings, but a booked slot with a QR code from the temple’s website or app is strongly recommended at weekends, on public holidays and at Diwali and Navratri. Confirm hours and slots on the temple’s social pages.
- Is the old Shiva temple in Bur Dubai still open? And the Krishna temple?
- The Shiva Mandir and the Sindhi gurdwara in the Bur Dubai complex closed on 3 January 2024 and moved their services to Jebel Ali. The Shri Krishna Temple beside them did not move; it was closed from 3 April 2026 and resumed regular darshan on 11 April, with sessions from about 06:30 to 11:15 and 17:00 to 19:30. Al Fahidi station on the Green Line is the closest metro.
- Which gurdwara in Dubai serves langar, and when?
- Guru Nanak Darbar at Jebel Ali serves free vegetarian langar to everyone. A May 2026 listing gives breakfast 07:30–10:00, lunch 12:00–15:00 and dinner 19:00–20:30; the gurdwara is open 04:30–20:30 daily (normal hours resumed on 20 June 2026). Cover your head, remove shoes and wear no shorts.
- Is there a Hindu temple or gurdwara in Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah?
- None that we could confirm with an address and a schedule. Hindus and Sikhs from these emirates travel to Bur Dubai or the Jebel Ali Worship Village in Dubai, or to Abu Dhabi for the BAPS mandir. A directory lists small gurdwaras in Sharjah’s Al Sajaa industrial area and in Ras Al Khaimah, but with no timetable; ask the Sikh community before going.
- How crowded are the temples at Diwali, and what are the 2026 dates?
- Very: expect queues from the morning and book your slot early. Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026. For Diwali 2025 the BAPS mandir opened 09:00–21:00 on the day itself, and held Annakut on 22 October and Maha Annakut on 25 and 26 October with smart gates and an air-conditioned waiting tent; its 2026 programme was not yet published on 22 October. The Guru Nanak Gurpurab falls in late November.
