Hindu temples, gurdwaras and Jain temples in Canada

Most of Canada’s Hindu temples and gurdwaras are in the Greater Toronto Area: the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at 61 Claireville Drive in Etobicoke, the Hindu Sabha Mandir at 9225 The Gore Road in Brampton, the Richmond Hill Hindu Temple on Bayview Avenue and the Ontario Khalsa Darbar gurdwara at 7080 Dixie Road in Mississauga, with Brampton and Scarborough holding most of the rest. Metro Vancouver’s gurdwaras are on Ross Street in Vancouver and across Surrey, with ISKCON in Burnaby and a BAPS mandir in Delta. Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Halifax each have at least one Hindu temple and one gurdwara, listed below with addresses and the hours each publishes.

    Opened in 2007 beside Highway 427 and Finch Avenue in Etobicoke, built of Turkish limestone, Indian pink stone and hand-carved marble, with a wooden haveli and a heritage museum. Some news captions place it in Mississauga, but the address is Toronto; entry is free.

Scarborough is inside the City of Toronto, and its Tamil and Gujarati temples line Markham Road, Ellesmere Road and Birchmount Road. Richmond Hill, in York Region, has two long-established temples on Bayview Avenue and Yonge Street.

    The society was founded in 1906 and opened its first gurdwara on West 2nd Avenue in January 1908. The Ross Street building, designed by Arthur Erickson to resemble a lotus rising from water, was finished in April 1970; its kitchen serves 400–500 free meals a day, and the city added Khalsa Diwan Road as the street’s second name in 2018.

Also worth knowing

Every gurdwara serves langar, a free vegetarian meal, to everyone who comes, whatever their faith. Cover your head and remove your shoes before entering the hall; many gurdwaras provide head coverings, and the Cambridge Gurdwara asks for clothing below the knee. Alcohol, tobacco and drugs are not allowed on the premises. Many gurdwaras listed here come from the World Gurudwaras directory, which gives addresses but not diwan times — ring or check the gurdwara’s own page before a first visit.

For a house puja, a naming ceremony or a wedding, ask the larger Hindu temples (the Hindu Sabha in Brampton, the Richmond Hill Hindu Temple, Vishnu Mandir, the Hindu Heritage Centre in Mississauga, the Hindu Temple of Ottawa-Carleton) which priests are available. Most communities have a temple of their own tradition — Tamil, Gujarati, Bengali, Nepali, Maharashtrian — in the regions above, which is the quickest route to a priest who speaks your language.

The biggest days are crowded: Navratri in October, Diwali on Sunday 8 November 2026, Vaisakhi in April and Guru Nanak Jayanti in late November. Toronto’s Khalsa Day parade was held at Nathan Phillips Square on 26 April 2026, and Vancouver’s Vaisakhi parade left the Ross Street gurdwara that month. Parking is the usual problem — arrive early, or take transit to Scarborough Centre for the Scarborough Gurdwara.

Opening hours move with the season and the festival calendar: the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Scarborough publishes only its winter timings, and ISKCON Toronto’s own page says its times are subject to change. Where a temple publishes nothing we have not guessed.

Not listed because we could not confirm an address or current opening: the Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre in Markham (nightly garba in Navratri); the Hindu Cultural Centre in London, Ontario, which publishes daily aarti times but no street address; the BAPS mandir in Cambridge (333 Speedsville Road, by BAPS’s own listing, whose pages we could not open); the BAPS mandir in Edmonton, on Parsons Road; the Hindu Temple Burnaby, which has been building on Marine Drive; the Hindu Mission of Canada in Montreal; any gurdwara in London or Windsor, Ontario; and the temples of Saskatchewan and Atlantic Canada outside Halifax. Wikipedia’s list of Hindu temples in Canada names more Brampton, Scarborough and Mississauga temples whose addresses we could not read from their own pages.

Questions people ask

Where is the BAPS mandir in Toronto?
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir is at 61 Claireville Drive, Toronto M9W 5Z7, in Etobicoke beside Highway 427 and Finch Avenue. Some news reports place it in Mississauga, but the address is in the City of Toronto. Entry is free; check the BAPS Toronto page for darshan times.
What is the biggest Hindu temple in Canada?
By floor area, the BAPS mandir in Toronto, which the Globe and Mail put at 100,000 square feet. The Hindu Sabha Mandir at 9225 The Gore Road in Brampton gives its own figure of over 34,000 square feet on a 25-acre site and calls itself the largest Hindu temple in North America.
What is the biggest gurdwara in Ontario?
The Ontario Khalsa Darbar at 7080 Dixie Road, Mississauga. Founded in 1978, its present building was inaugurated on 25 June 1989, an expansion of about 110,000 square feet was begun in 1997, and the grounds now total about 38 acres. The hall is open to the sangat daily from 04:00 to 22:00, and langar runs from early morning to 21:00.
Which gurdwara in Toronto serves langar every day?
The Scarborough Gurdwara (Gursikh Sabha Canada) at 905 Middlefield Road serves langar every day to everyone, regardless of religion, race, gender or income; its kitchen works from about 04:00 to 21:00. The Ontario Khalsa Darbar in Mississauga also serves langar daily.
