Where to celebrate Deepavali in Penang
George Town’s Little India is the centre of Penang’s Deepavali, and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) posted a notice on 30 October closing Lebuh Pasar, Lebuh China, Lebuh King and Lebuh Penang to traffic from 9am to 9pm on 31 October, 1 November and 5, 6 and 7 November, with part of Lebuh Penang also shut from noon to 7pm on Monday 2 November. In 2025 The Vibes reported festive stalls crowding the streets around Lebuh Queen, Lebuh Chulia and Jalan Pasar, and the Penang Hindu Endowments Board says the Sri Mahamariamman Temple on Lebuh Queen is particularly packed at Deepavali. Deepavali is Sunday 8 November, and Monday 9 November is a replacement holiday in Penang.
