How Indians get hired

An Indian can work in the UAE only on a residence visa an employer sponsors and pays for, or on a self-sponsored Green visa (AED 15,000 a month) or Golden visa (AED 30,000). Hiring is selective: the Emirates Group received 3.5 million applications in its 2025–26 financial year and hired 9,700 people.

  • The employer's visa. The employer applies and pays. MOHRE work-permit fees run from AED 250 to AED 3,450 by company category, and a full two-year visa costs the firm roughly AED 3,000–7,000.
  • The job-seeker visa. 60, 90 or 120 days with no sponsor, for bachelor's holders in MOHRE skill levels 1–3 or recent graduates of a top-500 university. GDRFA Dubai charges AED 200, 300 or 400 plus VAT and a refundable AED 1,000 guarantee. You may interview, not work.
  • A visit visa. Interviews allowed, work forbidden. Most 30- and 60-day visit visas can be extended online twice by 30 days at AED 600 plus VAT, and an in-country status change costs about AED 535–675 in Dubai. Overstaying costs AED 50 a day.

A genuine offer is a MOHRE offer letter with a serial number and barcode you can check on the ministry's website, app or call centre (600 590000). Get your degree attested and the Equivalency Certificate started before you fly: together they decide your MOHRE skill level.

Where to look

  • LinkedIn, Bayt, GulfTalent, Naukrigulf and Indeed; filter on "visa provided" and "currently in UAE".
  • The employers' own career pages, and recruiters such as Hays and Cooper Fitch, who are paid by the employer.
  • Walk-in interviews for retail, hospitality and call centres, usually in Deira or Al Quoz.

Expect a professional search to take three to six months. Mainland firms with 50 or more staff must raise the Emirati share of skilled jobs to 10% by the end of 2026 (u.ae), so HR, admin and customer-service roles are the least likely to be sponsored from abroad.

Salary against rent

There is no income tax. The 2026 guides put an accountant at AED 6,000–18,000 a month, a software developer at AED 12,000–35,000 and a registered nurse at AED 8,000–18,000 in government or large private hospitals; freshers in small firms start at AED 3,000–5,000. In Deira a one-bedroom was AED 66,000 a year in Bayut's H1 2026 report, and a bedspace AED 600–800 a month. Budget AED 4,500–6,500 for a sixty-day job hunt.

Read the basic salary, not the package: gratuity is 21 days of basic for each of the first five years and 30 days a year after that. ILOE insurance is yours to buy: AED 5 a month on a basic up to AED 16,000, AED 10 above it, and an AED 400 fine for not subscribing. Since 1 June 2026 wages are due through the Wage Protection System by the first day of the following month.

Fees, scams and ECR passports

You never pay to be hired. UAE law makes the employer pay recruitment and residence costs and bars it from recovering them from you (u.ae). A "free visa" is illegal visa trading, and working on a visit visa while someone promises to "convert it later" is an offence.

With an ECR passport you also need India's emigration clearance: the employer recruits you through eMigrate, the contract must meet the referral wage (USD 200 a month under the 2020 circular, with food and accommodation on top), and a Registered Recruiting Agent may charge you at most β‚Ή30,000 plus GST. Report a fee demand to MOHRE, Dubai Police (901) or the Consulate's PBSK (800 46342).

What to ask here

  • What does my role really pay in Dubai or Abu Dhabi?
  • Which employers in my field sponsor candidates from India?
  • How long did your status change from a visit or job-seeker visa take?
