Diwali in Poland 2026

Diwali 2026: Sunday, 8 November 2026

Dates and venues checked against the organisers’ own pages on .

Diwali 2026 in Poland is on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The sun sets at 4:05 pm in Kraków. Lakshmi Puja is performed in the evening after sunset, in the pradosh period — roughly the first two and a half hours after it; the lamps are lit as it gets dark.

Poland’s Diwali is small and kept mostly at the temples and by the Indian community’s own groups. The places with a fixed address are ISKCON’s main Polish temple at Mysiadło near Warsaw (open since 1989), its temple in Wrocław and the Radha Govind Bhakti Yog Mandir at Brzegi between Kraków and Wieliczka, opened in 2022; in Wrocław the Indian and Hindu community held a Diwali in the airport terminal on Sunday 2 November 2025, with garba, and we found no 2026 programme for any of them by 30 October.

Diwali is not a public holiday in Poland: the 2026 holiday list on gov.pl runs from New Year’s Day to Christmas and has no Hindu festival, and Sunday 8 November is a Sunday in any case (Independence Day, Wednesday 11 November, follows three days later). Fireworks are not sold to under-18s according to the police, the statute fixes no season for using them, and letting them off in a way that disturbs the peace is an offence under article 51 of the Code of Petty Offences, so homes are lit with diyas and candles.

Where to celebrate Diwali in Poland, city by city

Diwali in Warsaw

ISKCON Warsaw’s main temple, New Ramana Reti at Mysiadło south of the city, has run since 1989 and holds Sunday programmes, and Diwali falls on a Sunday, but its website had posted no Diwali programme on 23 October (its latest news is from September) and the home page of the Embassy of India’s site carried no Diwali notice. No ticketed Diwali event for Warsaw had turned up by 30 October.

Diwali in Kraków

The Radha Govind Bhakti Yog Mandir at Brzegi, between Kraków and Wieliczka, opened in 2022 and is the Kraków area’s Hindu temple, run by the Radha Govind Society. We found no Diwali programme for it, or for the city’s Indian student and professional groups, by 30 October.

Diwali in Wrocław

Wrocław’s Indian and Hindu community held a Diwali in the airport terminal on Sunday 2 November 2025, with garba and the honorary consul of India attending, as the city’s news site reported; no 2026 date had been published by 30 October. ISKCON’s temple at Brodzka 157 (Nowe Nawadwip) holds Sunday meetings with bhajan at 14.00, arati at 16.00 and a feast at 16.30.

What Diwali is

The biggest night of the Indian year: lamps, sweets, new clothes and fireworks. Abroad it is celebrated over the surrounding weekends, with one large public event in most big cities.

Diwali marks the return of Rama to Ayodhya and the victory of light over darkness; for many families it is also the day of Lakshmi Puja and the start of a new business year. Homes are cleaned and lit with diyas, sweets are exchanged, and the evening ends with fireworks.

  • Book restaurant tables two weeks ahead — the Diwali weekend fills every Indian restaurant in town.
  • Check local fireworks rules before buying any; most European towns restrict them to New Year.
  • Sweets (mithai) can be ordered from Indian grocers a week ahead; many deliver nationwide.
  • The big city events sell tickets in advance and sell out; children under a certain age are usually free.
