Beldrive — Online Driving Licence Application Platform

Beldrive is the federal online platform for driving licence applications. It saves you a trip to the commune for the paperwork — but only for certain cases, and the list of situations it cannot handle is the part worth reading first.

Run by FPS Mobility and Transport, Beldrive handles:
- Applications for a provisional Category B licence
- Renewals of permanent Category A and B licences — expiring, lost or damaged
You need either a passed theory exam, or an expiring or lost licence. Sign in with your eID or itsme; the system reuses the photograph from your identity card, so there is nothing to upload. The physical licence is then collected in person, by appointment.
Four cases it cannot handle
Go to your commune instead if you need a medical certificate, if your right to drive has expired, if you have just passed the practical exam, or if your licence was stolen rather than lost. That last distinction catches people out — a theft needs a police report, which is why the online route is closed to it.
Set up itsme before you need it. It is the identity app most Belgian public services now run on, and getting it working takes a few minutes with your eID and card reader. Doing that in advance turns this application — and a good deal of other Belgian admin — into a five-minute job.
Where this fits
Beldrive is the administrative step, not the licence itself.
